Prevent my start menu items syncronising in other profiles.

For instance, I only want to MSN to start in my profile.. previously I'd set it to "Don't start with windows" and drag a short cut to the application into my own start menu.
For some reason on the latest install of XP.. the start menu is the same for each profile.

    Please help!

With Windows XP, there are two different areas of Start Menu items. There's one which all users can see, and one for each profile that only that person can see.

If you right-click on the start button, you'll see what I mean. There is two options for opening, a simple 'Open', which will open the Start menu for icons specific to your profile, and 'Open All Users', which shows up for everyone. If you want to have an icon to yourself, open up both 'Open' and 'Open All Users', find the MSN icon in the All Users and drag it into your area.

There's possibly an easier way to do it, but that's how I'd do it.

    Beefy is correct.

In Windows Explorer, startup items for all users of a system are usually under:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

While startup items for you specifically are under:

    C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
