    Sorry if i sound ignorant but my mates pc is crashing about 3 sec into desktop loading .I had a quik look at it at work and thought it might be a mem issue.

    His stats are Xp 1800+ , 256 pc2700 ,20 gbdisk,mx440,Asus kt400
    mobo .

    He has service pk 1 installed .Can anyone tell me if i can help him as my time is limited to work.

    I spose we could always install a freshy :thumb:
    Athlon XP 1800 + @ 1600
    Gigabyte Ga-7va KT-400
    ASus Gf4 Ti 4200 128
    Seagate Barracuda III
    512mb Kingmax DDR 333

    do you mean crashing = restarting?

    if that is the case then my best guess would be a STOP error.
    go to system properties --> startup and recovery and uncheck the box saying "automatically restart".
    that would show you a blue screen the next time XP tries to restart.
    note the STOP error it shows and post it here and then we might be of some more help.

    After running through the startup screens, right after the XP splash screen, my comp will, 6 out of 7 times, just freeze. Screen black, keyboard wont work, etc. If im lucky, after like 8 more restarts it will make it past that....is this the same problem you have?
