, ok I have a TDK CDRW drive., I have several mpeg i want to burn so i can clear up some HDD space. I use NERO burn rom xpress.
I can create an audio cd, a data, cd or a video cd (VCD).
If i create a video CD it will encode the file so i can playback on my standalone DVD player connected to my TV. but in doing this i find that I cannot use this CD to playback on my CDRW drive for windows media player 9 as its in a different format.

my question is: how do i create the CD from my mpeg files, to playback on media player? do i just create a data CD instead of a video CD? as it stands now I cannot play the burned VCD in my CDRW drive but i can play it in my DVD player... while I like the DVD playback better, I still am looking for info on how to get it to playback on my CDRW in my PC. again I do not have a DV-R drive.

yes, burn your mpeg as a data cd, not VCD. This way u can view them on you computer, but not a DVD player.

I may be wrong, but if you burn as a VCD, you can still play it in windows media player. All you have to do is find the file that is the video (it'll be the big 300MB+ file) and open it in WMP. I think it shows up as a DAT file, but it should still open for you.

thanks, i did try this... but when i did it, if i remember correctly. it would not allow me to "ONLY" open that .DAT file, The little checkbox was grayed out, and in having it open to WMP it changed all my .DAT files on the computer to open with WMP hehe.

and then when i tried to run the .DAT file from the mpeg my computer completely locked up and EXPLORER shutdown..

I had to run a sys restore to get things back to normal.,,im just going to burn them as data cd's or vcd's.

    thanks for the help.

Most CDRWs cannot read Video CD format, hence the need to use data CD format.

DVDROM drives however should be able to read and run a Video CD as a Video CD.
