That little icon that would be in the start menu does not appear anymore. It has a little icon like showing nothing is associated with it anymore and when I click on it nothing happens. I right clicked and went to properties but it said invalid link.

Is there a way to repair that so I don't have to go through the windows website to get to that page? It's the icon in Start> All programs> at the very top.

I just came from another format and everything is fine except that part now

    All help is appreciated. :thumb:

The reason is that any icon pinned to the start menu is typically only a link to shortcut somewhere else. Did you delete the Windows Update shortcut in the Accessories or All Programs menus? Anyway you can easily access Windows Update in several ways:

    1. Create a new shortcut and put it in one of your start menus. The shortcut path is:

    %SystemRoot%\system32\wupdmgr.exe

    2. You can open Internet Explorer and access Windows Update under the Tools menu.

    3. You can create an item in your favorites with the link:

    http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

    Thanks that worked.

As for the other question, not to sure? I was done updating Norton then went to update windows then it just restarted when I clicked on that. When I came back it had the weird file icon like it wasnt associated with anything and said invalid shortcut.
