    Hey,

As of today, my animated gifs in Windows XP stopped working. I tried going back to the last known good restore point which in itself was successful, but didn't restore my animated gifs.

I noticed them not working after installing "XTNDConnect PC for SonyEricsson" and "Sony Ericsson Image Editor". Uninstalling them didn't do me any good, and after that I tried the restore point thingy mentioned above.

    Ideas anyone?

(btw, re-installing my system is in itself not really a problem, I just don't have the time for that now, so easy solutions are welcome!)

    TIA,
    ~Qinx

As a matter of fact... I do! hmm... let's see what happens when I switch it off or uninstall it.

If uninstall is needed, does anyone know a different firewall, or is the standard XP a good one? I'm on cable, so I like at least the thought (illusion?) of having things locked down...

You said they stopped working after installing the Ericsson software.
What I would do is use regcleaner to make sure all of the registry codes are taken out, then see if they start working again.
It sounds to me like the Ericsson software did it. Especially if you have had Zone alarm running for a while with no problems. Which from the sounds of it you have.
I have run Zone alarm for years on all my machines with no problems. Although I have had the same problem with animated gifs before, and it was never attributed to my firewall, as it shouldn't.

That is what I thought as well. So I hoped that going back to a earlier restore point would solve my problem. Alas it didn't (either I didn't go back far enouh, or restoring doesn't clean the registry)

I had ZoneAlarm running for about two weeks when I noticed this, the Ericsson software for a day. (watch out for the change in tone: before I said that it started after installing the ericsson software, now the most I can say is that I *noticed* the fault after installing the software.)

Well, I'm away from my home PC right now, but I'll try the metioned things before I actually re-install the whole OS.

    Cheers,
    ~Q

Isn't there a setting with Explorer, a check box of sorts, that specifies 'Stop Animations'

    Can't remember exactly, sounds familiar.

Nah, I remember checking that. Besides, it's also in other applications, not only in Internet Explorer.

Well what do you know... during my absense the trial version of ZoneAlarm expired, so it shut itself down. And animated gifs are animated again. Seems it was ZoneLabs then :) Thanx!
