I've had 1 virus in 2 years, and never had this sort of strange behaviour.
the patch for the vulnerability has been out for a month now so you would have been protected long ago against this, if everyone stayed updated like this these things wouldnt spread as bad as they do.

ahahaha. i dont think mines ever had a virus, i have a full SPI hardware firewall, and i keep my outlook express patched, this stops %99 of the virus's out there, the other 1% are the ones you have to manually open, they only fool the completely clueless.

bah, thats one of the lamest excuses. you do have something important, yer IP address, they use unprotected computers like yours to launch attacks on others which will only get traced back to you not them, it allows them to hack more important targets free from getting caught.

PI doesn't have a firewall... I don't have a virus scanner. Each to their own I guess. :)

I just find there can be a lot of problems using firewalls. A lot of programs act very strangely because of them. Also because I game online I am loathe to enable anything which can affect my pings. I pay very careful attention to my net stats to see if there's any extra usage, and also to my processes. I know exactly how many processes are shown in task manager at startup (16 incl. Task manager) and how much memory they take up (66MB commit charge). Hence anything loading up and mucking around in the background is quickly spotted.

I do however think you have to scan for viruses beefy :) Even if you patch your machine, some viruses and trojans can sneak in before a patch is released, e.g from files on Kazaa, disks from friends or from work.
