I have a different problem. When I go to Windows Update website, it shows an error message that I am not logged on as the administrator. But I am the only user on my computer, and everytime I log on as the administrator.

I search on MS knowledge base. Found a solution. Changed my registry and so forth as per the instructions. I am still getting the same error message.

Now when I go to knowlege base to look for the same solution page, I can't find it.

I am forced to use the 'automatic windows update' for the time being. Can someone tell me what's going on here.

P.S. I'm using Win XP Pro

the knowledge base article you were trying to find is here
"Administrators Only" Error Message When You Attempt to Use the Windows Update Site

another one that might help is
"Windows Update Was Disabled by Your System Administrator" Error Message

if you still can't find what you are looking for, then follow PersianImmortal's guide named "From Relax to Righteous". the links are on top of the forum. it explains trouble shooting Windows Update in a section.
