I'm trying to set up my pc so that you HAVE to put in a password in order to access the system. At the welcome screen in XP, is there any way to do this as I've tried and failed. Figured it would be easier to ask here then go fiddling around with things.

Start/control panel/user accounts Very easy to create new accounts and put passwords in. Don't forget to put your admin PW away safely

No, I did that, but when I start up the pc it skips over the login and goes straight to desktop. Should I create another username so it has to prompt to choose a name?

It'll skip if there's 1 acct w/ no PW or when there are more than 1 acct.If the above conditions have been met, then there's something screwed up and someone else will have to help you.

lets say your logon is john.

if you have only have: Administrator and John.

the administrator shouldnt show up on default, creating a password should make it stop logging in automatically.

go to start --> run and type
    control userpasswords2
in the window that pops up there is a check box saying that users must enter a password to login. i m not on a windows box right now so can't tell you the exact thing but i hope you get the idea.
