I have moved across to this forum with problem first logged in Driver Forum.

Fujitsu Siemens scaleo / Windows ME : Update of driver/firmware for Samsung DVD-ROM 612S has caused real problems.

Having applied update (as per Fujitsu support site) the DVD-ROM drive is no longer visible to the system (see Driver Forum).
Finding DR WATSON on my machine I have run diagnostics which return the message:
Windows System Driver core component has altered Windows system file.
    Module Name:system.drv
Desc.: Windows System Driver core component
<unknown > has altered Windows system files.

Advice please as to whether this means I need to do Windows re-instal or if there is a "work around".

Many thanks for suggestion, but System File Checker is NOT included in Windows ME.
I'm currently trying to get my head around how System File Protection works in ME: by definition this should have prevented corruption of system files (shouldn't it ?)

M$ dropped a few good system tools with MEss just for the sake of System Restore. :tears:

Personally I'd just format and reinstall MEss but don't forget to insert the missin' .vxd files as soon as the MEss install is finished and b4 any other drivers are loaded.
