When Trying to start up my system it fails near the end of the start up screen on 2k. Bios is all ok see below ( New motherboard now replaced under warranty) any ideas ?

Disk problems since upgrading bios. Unable to load operating system. Computer reboots at end of first phase of W2K cd setup. Tried bios failsafe defaults. Can format disk using partition magic CD, but then disk is reported as having partition problems. (including error 1516 partition improperley dismounted, error 1513 bad attribute position, error 1655-FRS not in any directory) Tried different disk, Tried different IDE cable, same problem. Disks are both OK in a different computer. Tried Dos setup from floppy disk, made 2Gb FAT partition then failed. Tried WIN NT Workstation set up from CD - failed.

Is there a problem with this bios version when writing disk partition information or is it a motherboard hardware fault ?  :steam:

Have ya been to the hard drive manufacturer's website and downloaded their diagnostic software to check the hard drive for any faults? Also ya may want to run Memtest86 as well.

It maybe a good idea now to give up the full hardware details of ya setup.

Well other than ya bought a Deathstar I can't see any probs there so I'll ask this just to be sure. Have ya got the drive jumpered as a master and is it attached to the very end of the IDE cable which should be on the primary IDE channel? :?:

i have a feeling that this is a problem with Partition Magic CD you are using. rather than using this CD, go the old fashioned way the "fdisk". make partitions with fdisk and format partitions from W2K install.

all the errors u are getting like 1513, 1516 are related to disk problems and the only problem in sight is PartitionMagic as someother users have also experienced this (try google).
