Thread: Does Bootvis merely diagnose, or does it optimize?

I've read in various tweak guides (for example "From Reformat To Relax", among others) that Bootvis will optimize bootup times. Upon trying to download it at MS's site, however, I came across this:

"Please note that Bootvis.exe is not a tool that will improve boot/resume performance for end users. Contrary to some published reports, Bootvis.exe cannot reduce or alter a system's boot or resume performance. The boot optimization routines invoked by Bootvis.exe are built into Windows XP. These routines run automatically at pre-determined times as part of the normal operation of the operating system." - MS's Bootvis Webpage

So, is there a version of Bootvis which does optimize, and which this webpage at MS's site is not talking about, or is there only one version of Bootvis, and it does not optimize, contrary to what many believe?

If there is a version which optimizes, can somebody please provide a link to download it?

In my guide (reformat to relax) it explains exactly how you can use it to both diagnose, and then optimize. There is only one version of Bootvis which does both of these things, the latest being 1.3.3.7. I'm not sure why MS took it down, but it works just fine for me.

    tjgartner,

Many besides our very own Persian Immortal said the same thing when MS pullled Bootvis from their site.

No one seems to know why it was pulled but everyone agrees that it did help performance.

I did a simple google search and found several threads stating such, and many of them had version 1.3 available for download.

    Best of Luck!
If you think you know what I know and think you see what I see, than why are you asking me questions?

Ok, thx. I found a site that has Bootvis and downloaded it. I guess I'll just have to try it and see if it increases the speed of my bootups.
