hi guys, i have a question about chaning from window 2000pro to window xp.

i have a old computer (533mhz cpu, 128pc100 ram) tat is now using 2000pro. I've been getting alot of "errors" tat is getting really annoying. I say this because i have a other old compuer running at 1ghz, 192 mb ram with window xp home and it runs programs really good. So, i was wondering is it a good idea for me to change the 533mhz, 128mb computer to window xp. Will my computer run REALLY REALLY slow?

It should help make it faster, I use to run Windows XP Professional on my old Intel Pentium 2 that ran at 333MHz and it only had 96 megs of PC66 Ram.

It won't run slow, I ran it on a P3 500mhz, 128mb system just fine.

No big deal at all, don't understand what all the fuss is about.

I ran XP on an old K6-200mhz with 128mb of PC66, all visual enhancements as well. It worked fine

    what fuss?

it sounds like your 2k pro problems could be fixed with a format, which you should do anyway if you upgrade to XP, so it's not nessesary to upgrade unless you just want to spend the cash. But yes, you should be able to run XP on it just fine, although more RAM would certainly help. I've got XP pro running on a PIII 550 mhz with 448 MB of PC100 for a relative; with tweaking it runs great considering the hardware.

If you do intsall XP you should take a good look though both of TT's XP guides.

My only advice is a bit more ram. I have found that anything less than 256mb will really slow things down alot due to excessive pagefile usage. Even 64mb more and you will notice a big speed increase with xp.
