    Default Installation XP PRO

    G'days, this is the situation.

    Notebook, is formatted using fdisk.

The bios is set to boot cd-rom first

I place the windows xp pro cd in.

I follow the prompts, all the way up to formatting the partition.

It formats the partition all the way to 86% and then stops

    It does not pas 86%

Is this a hardware problem or software ?

I beleive that the hard-drive is gone. Prior to the format, the hard-drive ran windows xp but at a very slow rate. So it did boot before.

    Help please

Format the HDD outside of Windows using Fdisk or a similar utility. If it fails, replace the HDD and/or notebook through your warranty with the manufacturer. If your warranty has expired, go buy a different notebook HDD.
