    Default windows new installation

    If I Install windows xp as a new installation, will i be able to access the files that I have on any partition that my hhd have?

    That is a loaded question as there are too many variables.

    If you're talking about accessing files on a seperate partition then yes, you will be able to access them normally.

    If you install Windows over an existing installation of the OS (to fix file corruption problems) then yes, you will be able to access your files normally.

    If you install Windows and have a format performed during that installation then you will only be able to access files on a partition other than the one where you're installing Windows to.

    If you are performing a repartition during the installation then no, you won't be able to access your files.

    If you're loading Windows from a Linux or other alternative OS version then no, you won't be able to access your files.

    Hopefully I've covered most of the situations you might be facing.
