Finished it before you posted. Very interesting. I'll throw in the tweaks I've done:

If you hadn't done so before, read the XP service tweaking guide at www.blackviper.com.

    Go to Start > Run > Services.msc

SP2 sets several performance-reducing services to automatic:
    Automatic Updates
    DCOM Process Launcher
    Distributed Transaction Coordinator
    Security Center
    Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing
Anything else I disabled and forgot about or already had on Automatic

Automatic Updates is necessary for Windows Updates. I set it to manual so I can just start it when I update. Unless you actually use Automatic Updates, leave it to manual.

DCOM Process Launcher can be set to manual as it may be needed to install some programs.

Distributed Transaction Coordinator, and Security Center are mostly useless and should be disabled unless you use them or know you need them for something.

Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing is pretty much self-explanatory. It's necessary if you use the Windows firewall. I have NFC if you actually need it to share Internet, though. Unless you're sharing Internet without using a Router or something similar and you don't use the Windows Firewall, disable it.

I see no use whatsoever for Service Pack 2 for a user such as myself. I'm still debating whether or not I'm going to slipstream it with my XP CD as the only changes it makes for me are negative, one of which (Automatic Updates) has no real fix.

Security updates that I have any reason to care about?

Edit: I probably do, but I still don't like SP2 overall.

In any case, it's still good for the average user and should help many people in the long run.

Thanks for the site. The download works fine. My only question is this. My desktop is running Windows XP Pro and my laptop is running XP Home Edition. does the XP SP2 download work for both versions of Windows XP

when SP2 hits the Windows Update site (if it hasn't already), he should be able to figure that out for himself ;)

Im not having to many problems with SP2. The only problem was when i tried to install Cubase SX 2.0, for some reason it wouldnt play. I sorted it out though.

Generally a very "solid" update, if a little uninspiring. What else can we expect from Microsoft... Least the annoying messenger popups have been fixed now!
    AMD XP2500+ (2.3GHz, 'barton'), Abit NF7-Srev2 mobo, 2x 256mb PC2700 (crucial memory), nVidia GeForce 4 128mb, 80gb Western Digital ATA-133, 40gb Maxtor ATA-100, BTC 52x32x16 CD/RW and half a dozen fans!
