Svchost and anything Windows disallows you from ending is necessary. That's it.

    Start > Run > Msconfig > Startup
Just disable everything there and reboot.

Ok well that did work to a sertain extent, meaning that there are less user processes running I am still holding at around 40 processes.

The lowest I can get it to is 28 and that is without norton and no avg running ither.

Now read the Windows XP tweaking guide at www.tweakguides.com and the services guide at www.blackviper.com.

Well there is no reason to run AVG and Norton, first off. Two, iexplorer is Internet Explorer and I believe it starts a new process for each window open. Three, backweb-8876480.exe, EM_EXEC.EXE, rundll32.exe (being ran twice), and unseccapp.exe sound like somethings to get rid of, reenable all that crapola in MSCONFIG, and download AdAware6 from Lavasoft, update it, and scan for spyware.

I have AdAware SE(what is AdAware6?), I agree that Backweb-8876480 sounds supicious, but it didnt show up on the scans, however I did disable it in msconfig anyway after all the scans. I have rid my computer of anything that showed up in AdAware. I am tweaking using the XP guides and I was having network Problems a Minute ago but that is over with. I have managed to get the number of processes down to 30, but as soon as norton expires there will be signifiantly less, 3-4.

What would you suggest for a new anti virus once norton expires, I only have AVG because it seems to detect somethings that norton doesent. Macafee, Norton 2005, Panda, Stick with AVG, or go for somthing else? I dont mind paying up to $100 Canadian for an anti virus as long as it works and I dont need to keep buying it every year like Norton.

I have banned use of internet explorer on my computer, firefox and netscape are my browsers now.

The point is you shouldn't have two antivirus programs on the same computer, ever. Just stick with the free version of AVG.

You should use HijackThis (in sig) to deal with anymore potential spyware problems. It will get a lotof stuff the Ad-Aware doesn't, though it requires a bit more user interaction.

When you count the running processes, make sure you don't include open application such as Internet Explorer.
