    Default Win XP upgrade

I want to upgrade a win98 to xp, only have the full version of xp. Is there a way to upgrade without losing my win 98 files/programs?

It is always best to do a full reformat when upfgrading to a new OS. SO I suggest backing up the data you can't afford to lose and do a complete reformat.

Even if you just had the upgrade version of XP, you'd be better off formatting and doing a clean install.
Backup your data, install XP, then reinstall your programs
    AMD XP 2600+
    SOYO Dragon 400
    1 gig 3200 DDR
    Phillips CD/RW
    Pioneer DVD -/+ RW
2-60 gig HD in RAID, 1 60 gig backup
    XP Pro

You can just install it over 98, but many of your programs will cease to work because they no longer have any place in ther registry and all of them will have to have to be manually shortcuted as you'll lose all your shortcuts, meaning you have to go through the program's directories and find their main executive files. Although, you could just backup the shortucts... But again, many won't work at all and will need reinstallation.

I'd also agree it's best to just backup and reformat.
