Default Is it true that you need an special windows to use athlon 64 processors?

I've heard this rumor for some time (although i suspect it to be false), and since i am planning to upgrade to an athlon 64 processor i don't want to encounter any nasty suprises.

I have windows XP home edition.

Windows XP Home will work fine on an Athlon 64. Athlon 64's run both 32-bit and 64-bit oses.

You need the 64-bit version of Windows XP in order to run it in 64-bit mode. That's probably what you've heard. Athlon 64 run regular 32-bit Windows just fine.
