    Unhappy xp pro looses track of usb media reader slots

    if i reinsert a memory card without rebooting the card is not seen and the drive slots are not shown in "my computer" nor in device manager. this has happened on my other xp home/pro machines as well.is there a patch or did i not install the reader properly?

    I find on most of the card readers I have used that you NEED to reboot anyway, im sure there are some good ones that will allow you to see them in windows without rebooting, But I have yet to actualy use one.

    When in the device manager and instead of rebooting when its not shown what happens when you right click on the PC name and scan for changes?

    i don't know i'll try it.i use internal readers like oem and can't believe the general population would tolerate a reboot each time. will respond with results thx!!

    Hi there, I posted a solution that worked fine on my vantec card reader on another forum, I updated to Service pack 2 and the problem was gone hope this helps you too.
