I've googled around abit ofc trying to find any fix for this one but with ehm lets just say limited success :P. Anyways to me it sounds like some vista bug? Noticed that heaps and heaps of ppl have the same problem so it should be a simple solution like a easily downloaded fix. Well well I'll continue my search, if anyone find anything or have/had the same problem plz let me know.

    Try running this command >>>

Windows Key + R, then type cmd, and then this >>>

    sfc /scannow

Have your vista install disk handy as it may ask you for it.

Just so you know my thoughts, this sounds like a virus or spyware to me. I never have this issue, nor see it mentioned. And since you did a clean install before (I think) and it went away but is now back it is likely something you installed or did this past week or so that gave it back to you

Please install this and do a scan and save logfile and post the log here so I can see if anything looks out of the ordinary >>

    Try this....

    1) Run msconfig and goto Startup tab.
    2) Disable all Browser Helper Object i.e:
    - Adobe Reader Speed Launcher (Adobe Reader 9)
    - Free Download Manager
    - Java(TM) Platform
    - etc (if any) ...
    3) Reboot your system.
    4) Download from Nirsoft Startup Run v1.1x (strun.exe) and run as administrator.
    5) Goto Start then Run "msconfig" and choose Startup.
    6) Compare the above two screens 4 & 5. You can see the weird config...
    7) Goto StartupRun and "Disabled" = "Yes" all the Browser Helper Object i.e:
    - Adobe PDF Link Helper
    - Java Plugins
    - Free Download Manager
    8) Reboot your system.

    Or

    1) Download from Nirsoft ShellExView v1.3x (shexview.exe) and run as administrator.
    2) Choose "Disabled= Yes" all the Browser Helper Object.

    p/s: Hopefully working.......bye

    sfc /scannow

After it is done you will have to reinstall your windows updates again but that is all
When i press 'enter' the window closes and nothing happens. Is that it?

noticed something else.........the date/time clock has frozen

I am getting the same problem but only when I try to open download folder. Mine started after I downloaded youtube video and codec package for vista media player. I can't even delete it because the minute I click on the owner folder the "windows explorer has stopped working" popup comes. But in my case it restarts and everything works fine unless I try to open the owner folder where the download folder is in which the downloaded video is. I tried sf /scannow but nothing happens.

    Hi lsdmeasap,

Sometimes, just when you thought your computer is in a perfect condition, your windows explorer stops working, freezes up, and restarts over and over again. You get error messages like such as "windows explorer has stopped working" followed by "windows explorer is restarting". You have done nothing wrong but the machine keeps stressing you out. Read this article will you show you how to solve the problem Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working
