Good question. I would like to know the same.

I have an AMD 64 4000+ on socket 939. Currently running XP pro 32 bit. Would be interested to know if I will get a boost by switching to either XP 64 bit or Vista 64 bit.

Both are workable operating systems, but if you plan on utilizing more than 2GB of memory, then choose the 64 bit version so you can use it all properly.

I thought a 32bit OS could address upto 4Gb or RAM?

Anyway you can see my system configuration in my sig. Currently running XP pro 32 bit. And very happy with it, no real issues. Do you think I will get a performance boost if I switch to Vista 64 bit?

Probably not, but the OS is reasonably stable. Recent updates and the SP1 has made some workable changes to make it reliable and pretty user friendly. There is also supposed to be a SP2 hitting the streets soon. And yes, you will need a 64-bit OS to properly address 4GB memory. The 32-bit versions we are using now can only reliably work with about 2.5GB before getting ready to hack up a hairball.
