I tried to get rid of MS Messenger using the method in Tweaks by editing ",hide" in the sysoc.inf file.
I restarted and it still does not show up in my add remove programs list.
    Any ideas.
It starts everytime I use Outlook Express.

I have the same problem it opens whenever I open Outlook Express as well. Being the 200KB that it takes up is not that much compared to the 41GB HD that's on my computer I got by with telling it to go away through the preferences menu. But why does it open with Outlook? There seems to be an option in outlook of don't open MSN Messenger when outlook is open I unchecked that but it doesn't do anything. What's up with this?

It's either buggy coding or MicroSoft's strong-arm tactics.
I'm using Win98SE and have Messenger launch disabled in preferences. Yet still on the odd occasion it will ignore the settings and log in when I open Outlook Express.

But the preferences remain unchanged, and next time I check email it doesn't start. There is no rhyme or reason to these actions as far as I can tell:confused:

In Outlook Express under Tools/Options is a ticked box that says to automatically log messenger in, just untick it and that will at least stop the login if you want to keep Mesenger. :smokin:

Yeah, the majority of the time that is sufficient.
The times it ignores that, right clicking the icon in the tray and selecting "Cancel log-in" seems to do the trick.

Ah well, this type of stuff is just another fine example of why open source has so much opportunity to become a preffered OS if they can become accesable to the average user.

Yeah it's annoying to me as I use Trillian but others here use Messenger so I have to leave it on here. :(
