What is the purpose of having more than one extended partition on a hard drive? Can't you just make a single extended partition, and then put as many logical drives in as you want?

That's how most folks create multiple partitions, but some of the Old-School crowd prefer to have a separate extended partition for each drive letter that will host an operating system. So if you're wanting to run a multi-boot system with Win98/Linux/Win2k, then you would create a primary partition and two extended ones, and possibly another so that Linux can use it's own little piece for a SWAP file.
