Thread: Vista 64bit OEM Box: 32bit DVD?

Question Vista 64bit OEM Box: 32bit DVD?

I bought Vista 64bit Home Pr. from Newegg and after installing it I noticed that it says x86 in sysinfo. So I checked the DVD and see "This disc contains 32 bit software only"; double-checked the box and see "Windows Vista Home Prem SP1 64-bit English 1pk DSP OEI DVD".

How do I access the 64bit version?

Sorry if this is a noob question; any help will be appreciated.

You might contact Newegg and ask if they will exchange the OS for you. If the disk states it contains only a 32-bit version of Windows, then odds are good this is a statement of fact, just a product line error during packaging.

Alternatively, if you don't feel like hassling with the Newegg thing you might try to download the factory 64-bit ISO from a torrent and install it using the product key you got from the box. I do not know for certain if Microsoft makes a distinction with their product keys but it could work. Just make sure you get an image of a factory install disk and not a cracked version.
