    Hello! Ive been following the amazing guide on how to set up a network at home using XP.

    Before I start any file sharing across my network I wanted to check if there were any ports that could be open to attack.

    I was told by a friend that I have port 80 open which is the port used for personal web server (PWS).

    Is this installed by default with XP? Ive also read that a form of microsofts PWS is installed when you install frontpage 2002.

    Does anyone no if this is true and the best wasy to get rid of it as im unsure.

    CHEERS!! ::cheers:

    What internet connection are you on?

    What hardware are you using to connect your PC's?

    Are they all XP?

    If you are running XP Pro then it could be because of IIS, some of which is installed by default. You want to make sure that the world widw web service is not installed. I'm also not sure what port remote assistance works on but you might want to disable that as well.
