I have a problem with some applications whereby the Open File dialogue box will not order the files alphabetically. Windows 98 automatically showed the folders listed aphabetically first, then the files after it also in alphabetical order. I can change the "view" options to display all details and then sort the list, but it wont remember that "folder option" next time I open the dialogue. It is extremely frustrating when I have hundreds of files in the folder and cannot quickly locate the one I want. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Having more than 1 folder open when you set the folder preferences can cause XP to get confused as to which folder you want to be the default style.

Here is another tip... even if you have everything arranged alphabetically, this is especially useful when the folder contents is expansive.

Just start typing the title of what you want to bring up. and it will highlight the nearest match... and then of course you can push enter to open the selection.
