I'm having trouble installing XP home on my machine. Here are my specs.

    Athlon XP 2000+ w/volcano 7+
    GA-7VRXP v1.1 BIOS F9 (most recent)
    512 Samsung 2700 DDR
    Prolink GF4 Ti 4200 64mb
    IBM Deskstar 80GB 7200RPM

I think that should be sufficient. If there is anything I missed that is important, let me know.

I am now running Win98se with all updates and it is very solid, but would like to upgrade to the XP that I coughed up $$ for!

When I boot to the XP disk I get maybe 2 minutes into the install and I get a stop error. Post more info when I get it...

I have tried disabling all of the MOB onboard junk - no difference.

I am going to swap video cards, I'll post what happens... i'm not hopeful.

Let me know if you have any suggestions or solutions! Thanks!

Is there any problem with formatting and running a clean install instead of an update over a used installation? :?:

Well, here's the deal - I was doing a clean install... none of that upgrade nonsense.

I can hardly believe it, but I put my old video card (ATI Rage series) and didn't have any problem at all. XP installed without a hitch and has been running stable as a rock for about 8 hours now... I have yet to swap back to my GF4, so we'll see.

I should be able to get around to that tomorrow, so we'll see! I'll post what happens.:scream:

I swapped my GF4 back this morning and I can hardly believe it.... no problems - yet. It has only been about 30 minutes so far, but I've never had it running even that stable with my GF4... go figure.

The only change has been my new Volcano7+ which leads me to think that it was not stable due to excess heat. BUT when I was trying to install with this same setup (GF4 installed) I got nowhere... it only installed with the ATI.

So I don't know what to conclude... just a fluke thing or what? Any ideas?

    Thanks

That could be all it is, a fluke, but then again there maybe more to it. :?:

If that GeForce 4 of yours gives you anymore trouble I know how to solve the problem. Just follow the below steps....

Pack it in its original box
Take it to the post office
Address it to me
And lets hope it gets here in time for me for Christmas
