    i have udma 100 drive but xp wont run it at mode 5
    using latest via 4in1 drivers
    Gigabyte GA6VTXE M/B
    FUJITSU MPG3409AH G HARD DRIVE
    ANY SUGGESTIONS
    PS CAN TOU FORCE MODE 5?

    Your motherboard supports ATA100 (UDMA5) mode and so does your drive, so it should work. You can't "force" UDMA5 - it has to be an available mode for you to select.

    It just sounds like one or more of your settings are incorrect. You'll have to check your actual hard drive to make sure the switches at the back are set correctly. Also, check your BIOS settings.

    Then switch to PIO Mode in Windows and click OK. Then go back and switch to UDMA5 Mode and click OK. This "toggling" of the mode is sometimes required to reconfirm UDMA5 mode.

    /EDIT - forgot to add that obviously you'll need to use the special 80-pin cable for connecting your hard drive to the primary IDE controller to get full ATA100. I'm assuming this has already been done. If not, there's your problem right there.

    current mode4 is enabled bios set to 66/100
    80 pin cable
    funny thing is when i boot up bios says it it udma5 detected
    go figure
