Thread: Recommendation on what to do.

  1. #1

Default Recommendation on what to do.

I have a new Dell laptop that I really do want to switch to Windows 7. I am not switching because I don't like Vista because I really do. I am switching because it is a 64 bit vista on the laptop and the very important program I have to run using this laptop will not run on 64bit OS.
My question to you would be W7 home premium or professional. All my OSs have been pro because I like the remote features that pro offers as compared to the others. I do a lot of remote desktop and like the feature.
So, what do you all recommend? Let's hear it guys. Thanks.

Did you know since you paid for Vista you can reinstall it and use the same key, just install 32bit instead of x64.

As for windows 7, I'd choose professional myself.

I do have another question about where to get it. Should I get it from Dell where I bought it and get an upgrade or a full version from them.
Or should I buy it from newegg or whoever and get and upgrade or an oem?

Wherever is cheaper I suppose. If you do get a upgrade you can do a clean install with it, you just have to upgrade, then clean install (Suggested if you use upgrade).

OEM is fine as well, and usually cheaper.

If I upgrade then I can change computers if I want to so I think the upgrade is what I am doing.

If you want to chenge hardware often you will need to get Retail, not OEM. Upgrade disk for that will be fine, but you will need to call in and have the activation computer activate for you each time you change hardware.

It is easy, and only takes about 5 minutes. I do it often myself because I am Always changing hardware
