Have you checked out GUID Partition Table - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia?
It looks like Boot from GPT on EFI might be the only option with windows.

    An internet search using
    gpt windows 7 boot
    might provide more information.

Let us know how you make out.

I ended up using windows pe to change the drive from MBR to efi
I was hoping that could have been done with the windows install disk(when formatting the drive and creating partitions)
    thanks anyways

With a UEFI BIOS, you can tell the BIOS to boot your DVD in UEFI mode. This loads "D:\efi\microsoft\boot\cdboot.efi" using "D:\bootmgr.efi". Anyway, Windows setup will format the disk GPT and then create the required partitions: 100 MB System Reserved (fat32), 128 MB Reserved, and the rest for Windows (ntfs).

Not knowing any better, I installed the first time the normal way, just booting the DVD. Setup formatted the disk MBR since it didn't know any better not having been booted as UEFI.

    On my new E350 board:

    DISKPART> lis dis

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
    -------- ------------- ------- ------- --- ---
    Disk 0 Online 59 GB 0 B *

    DISKPART> sel dis 0

Disk 0 is now the selected disk.

    DISKPART> lis par

    Partition ### Type Size Offset
    ------------- ---------------- ------- -------
    Partition 1 System 100 MB 1024 KB
    Partition 2 Reserved 128 MB 101 MB
    Partition 3 Primary 59 GB 229 MB

After Windows 7 x64 was installed the BIOS Boot menu had a new entry, "Windows Boot Manager"
