    I think the reason why you see packet instead of bytes is because you have QoS Packet Scheduler enabled.

    Unistall QoS and you will see bytes.

    Stupid XP installs that by default.

    what is QoS Packet Scheduler and do i need it?

    no, you don't need it. Type QoS Packet in windows help and it will tell you.

    I uninstalled QoS Packet Scheduler and I still get Packets instead of bytes in the connection status....
    Oh well
