I have exactly the same problem, and after much looking haven't found a solution (so far your the only one who has the exact same problem). The only thing that fixes it, is shutting down and reloading explorer while in windows. Not a good method really.

I'd love to hear of anyone with a solution to this... some of those icons are mighty handy dammit

Do you have any of the same apps as perunaion has in his list that loads at startup? One of these items may be fouling up explorer on boot somehow. A common item might be the culprit.

Try keeping messanger from loading at startup and see if the problem goes away. If not you guys can try with the other common programs (one at a time ) too, to track down the problem.

No I don't believe so, I've had the newest version of Kazaa running for awhile now. It has not been set to load at boot either.

    Go to this website: http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup...tup_full.htm#N

It is a very comprehensive list of startup programs and their function. You could go into "msconfig" and take an inventory of your startup programs and check them with this site to see if anything crucial is disabled. Also there are some viruses that can add entries to your startup........this site lists alot of those entries too.

Nope, nothing unusual is attempting to load.
