Default windows 7 64 bit with ga-ep45-ud3p motherboard?

Hi--I'm new here and I hope this is the right forum. I have the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard and am currently using Windows XP 32 bit OS. I'd like to install Windows 7 64 bit. I know that I would have to do a clean install. My question will the 64 bit version work? The processor is Intel x86 Family 6 Stepping 10 3166 Mhz.
    Thanks.
    Rob

According to Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P (rev. 1.6) SATA2 Driver 1.17.50.02 Download - TechSpot (which is the SATA2 driver download page) yes it will.

The Gigabyte website lists a whole heap of drivers for this board for Windows 7 64bit.

Are the drivers my only concern?

The fact that there are drivers for Win7 x64 for your motherboard means that it is compatible with Win7 x64....or there wouldn't be drivers available.

With regard to your CPU, I found 4 CPU's with "Intel x86 Family 6 Stepping 10" and a frequency of between 3000Mhz and 3200Mhz.
These are Pentium Dual Core E5800, E5700, E5300 and E8400. (there may be more, I was scanning a VERY big list with the Mark 1 eyeball).

All four of those use a 64 bit instruction set, which means they should be good to use and address a 64 bit operating system.
If you have a different one again (not one of those four) please put it up. Not the "x86" bit, the Pentium/Xeon/Celeron and the number bit.

    Win7 x64 is fine for your EP45-UD3P.

I installed and had no Win7 x64 problems with the following motherboards:
    • N650SLI-DS4
    • P35-DS3L rev: 1.0
    • P35-DS4 rev: 2.0

    and the following processors:
    • E6300 (R0)
    • E6550
    • E6850
    • Q9650

where all but the Q9650 were overclocked as high as possible. The Q9650 passed stability tests at 4.0GHz but I'm showing respect to this good old cpu and running it with a more moderate 26% overclock at 3.80GHz.

The performance of the N650SLI-DS4 which uses Nvidia chipsets was inferior to both P35 motherboards.
SSD boot drives are limited to sata2 bandwidth limits but are still far superior to using a hard drive as your boot drive.

You will want to install the most recent 8/8/2013, version: 9.4.0.1026 Intel INF download from Intel immediately after your initial win7 install has completed. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...lation+Utility

Download and install the latest Gigabyte drivers and utilities from Gigabyte, but only install the drivers and utilities that you need.
Are you comfortable with flashing your bios if a newer version is available?
If yes, follow the guidelines in the http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ash-guide.html thread.

    Any questions?

I forgot to include a link to my http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...-capacity.html thread where I upgraded my system from win2K pro to win7 x64 along with my first ssd and a much better video card and I got some excellent advice from forum members. The thread has been viewed over 16,000 times since it started in December 2010.
