Here's an article from PC World Magazine that has some comments on PM Ver 8, it wont help your problem but its worth reading.

Interesting article. Sounds like they were not too impressed
either. I kept playing with it, and eventually got it to execute
without locking up at the beginning, but would eventually lockup
when performing any basic function (resize, create, etc).
Finally gave up. Makes me certainly not want to use XP.
Hope you all had a great holiday!
Cheers! (just got back from London)

It seemed to make some difference when disabling some XP
    settings like restore, etc.
Allie, do you have any specific XP settings enabled/disabled
from default? This has to have something to do with it.
It seems to be working for way too many people.

Sorry ppl but do all of ya's have a burner and 3rd party burnin' software? I know that this maybe sound but if ya answered as yes have ya also disabled XP's native burning processes? :?:

Now this is where this line of questioning comes to it's climax (stop thinkin' DIRTY you! I'm spose to be the "Dirty Old Man" around here or so some may tell ya anyway :p ) but if ya also answered no to the last one as well please post ya answers here. ;)

Sorry but it's just a hunch atm but ya replies may just help a lot of ppl out. :D

I have disabled a few sevices, namely Auto updates, IMAPI CD burning services,Netmeeting remote DS sharing, performance logs & alerts & System restore services.
I dont see how this would affect PM 8, but then who knows?

Sorry I cant be of more assistance.
Did you freeze in London? I had a great Xmas.

    Happy 2003 to all.

After a couple of months of not finding the answer, I gave up
    on this thread.
Just wanted to post a final note that I did eventually find the problem. There is a compatiblity problem with the particular
motherboard (HD IDE controller/chipset?), WinXP, and Partition
    Magic.
The system I was building for someone was the same motherboard (Epox EP-8K7A+ with RAID), both had the same problem, so I assumed it was XP & PM compatibility.
The MBs I am using now (Epoc EP 8K9Ai) do not have this problem.
Saw this info on another forum where someone had the
    EP-8K7A+/PM/XP issue.
