    Hi all,

I've installed Partition Magic 8 on a XP Prof system. But immediately after starting PM XP always freezes.

Who knows the problem and how can it be solved?

    Thanks in advance,

    KPK

PM in my experience works best by booting off the CD or creating a bootable floppy set from the CD. i belive only version 8 or higher works with XP.

go in the rescueme directory on the CD and run setup to create the boot floppy version.

I used Partition Magic 7.0 with no problems what so ever. I changed all my partitions to ntfs and even changed partition sizes while still in windows with no problems. I would suggest using PM 7.0 and see if that helps.

    Cheers ,

but it's the same with PM 7

Now I will try to figure out if one of the progs running in the background is responsible for the behavior.

    Thanks for your reply.

Also try turning off your system restore (if enabled) and any virus protection programs you may be running. Hope this helps.:thumb:

Ever find a fix for the problem? I'm seeing the same thing
WinXP Pro and PM 8.0. Even went back to 7.0 and it did
the same (yes PM 7.0 supports XP).
Tried turning off sysytem restore and no AV running in the
    background and that didn't help.
Even did a clean install of XP and only PM installed, same.
    Arrrrgghh

I have used PM 7 in XP for sometime with no problems, I upgraded to version 8 and struck freezeup trouble immediately, I have gone back to using 7.
I have from several sources that ver 8 is buggy, especially with XP SP1.

Strangely enough, I completely uninstalled PM 8, and
installed PM 7 and it does the same, locks the system
hard right after the PM splash screen comes up.
Tried a clean install of XP SP1 ,then PM 7, same.
Tried clean install of XP SP1 and even original XP,
with PM7/8, same problem. Even tried on a different HD
and a different sysytem with same result. I don't see
others having this problem so it must be some setting
in BIOS or XP that I don't have set right and causing this.
I've used PM with Win2k and other Win9x systems
with great success. What could be causing this
incompatiblity on my system? Driving me nuts!!

Yeah, exactly my prob and the reason I started the thread.

No solution found up to now

But went back to my Win 98 (dual boot, yep !) and did the work from there.

Nevertheless it leaves me unsatisfied that PM won't work with XP Prof Corp.

    Merry Christmas : peace:
