    I went to activate windows and put in a cd key i got from a key gen.. then suddnely it regesters online for me and goes " thank you for activating windows.."

    The problem being it was my friends cd key, he bought windows..

    What happens now ? :confused:

    in one sentence u r saying that u put the key from a key gen and then in the next one u r saying that it was ur friend's cd key.
    decide wat u wanna say buddy...lol!
    but anyways...presuming that it was just ur friend's cd and a different cd key (from key gen ofcourse) then u can try the original cd key on your friend's machine cos its not used yet. if it works...u r on the track...but if it doesn't...use another cd key from key gen and then activate XP from registry.
    i hope that will work for u...
