Maybe the CPU has been strangled to death by that mobo. :?:

I'm experiencing the same issue here!

    Gigabyte GA-7VAX (4x/8x AGP)
    AMD Athlon XP 2100+
    Sapphire Radeon 8500LE 128MB (2x/4x AGP)
    Kingston 512MB DDR333 PC2700
    WinXP Home

I'm somewhat curious about the videocard. Nothing came with it to let me know what voltage it's running at. Would the install even get to 'Setup is Starting Windows' if it was running at 3.3v? The MB manual said that some 2x/4x cards are set to 3.3v by default. Anyone know what the 8500LE is set to?

    Thanks!

I just read a review of the card over at Newegg, and the guy said he was using the exact same MB. Don't have a way to get ahold of him thow, to see what he did to get it to work....

If it isn't a VC issue, I don't know what to check... I don't have any PCI cards... Just HD, CD-RW (Installing OS from here), RAM, CPU, MB, AGP card, USB Mouse, PS2 Keyboard. I'm running the HD on IDE1 Master, and CD-RW on IDE2 Master.

Hmm... Just got another error. USBPORT.SYS

(Off topic, but the Thermaltake 7+ is LOUD)

Nope, now just back to IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

    Could AGP voltage cause this?

No the 7+ is not loud even on full speed (which I rarely use) where as I find other high speed fans are very offensive (SMART FAN II's and Delta's for example). :thumb:

Go to ya Control Panel/Admin Tools/Event Viewer and look at what problems are being logged in there and just not at the times of the crashes either as this may give a better idea to ya prob. ;)

Wow, the 7+ is loud compared to my system! :)

I would love to go into the Admin Tools... except I can't even get WinXP Home to install! LOL

I always hangs at 'Setup is starting Windows'!

The harddrive light is on, yet it doesn't do anything. I installed the harddrive in my other machine, and it read it fine and I even did a quick format on it as a primary drive. WD SE 40GB

    I'm stuck.......

I'd go back thru and double check everything in the BIOS again as this is likely a bad setting causin' this (or hard drive jumpering). Default AGP voltage of 3.3v is only when the card defaults to 2x operation but that can't happen with that mobo as the 4x (1.5v) protocol only can be used. You should only need medium speed with that 7+ but I can show ya plenty of noisier ones. ;)

Hmmm.... CPU temp seems to high....

7+ speed at low, the CPU temp is around 59c
    Medium ~55c
    High ~51c

    Doesn't this seem way high?

Well, theres a BIOS revision for the MB.

    GA-7VAX

File Name BIOS Version F9 (Dec. 18, 2002)

    Version Description
    1. Using Flexible AGP 8X item replace AGP mode support item

So, ummmm...... yeah, what they said...?

I'm not too sure what that means, but it has to deal with the AGP which is where I think the problem lies.

bdw8 - What video card are you using? Is it a 2x/4x?

    GREAT!! :snip: Damn thing!!!

Well, it may be the MB, I don't know. Now I can't even get it to start up the XP setup! It hangs at System Configuration and the cursur is at the parallel ports. I don't know if that a sign at all.

:shoot3:  :snip: :flames: :devil win
