Hi, I have a DELL OEM version of Win XP PRO and could not get
    SP1 to install
Hunting around I found the XP PRO Key changer and viewer
progs which I though would answer my problems
However, like many of you this didn,t work
The DOS window with the various possible keys came up but
did not then bring up the windows registration screen.

In frustration I downloaded xp anti-spy which did have an option
which allowed me to get the reg screen up
However none of the Serial Keys generated using the Gen
Prog worked, all were invalid. This was as I now discover because
    I have the OEM version.

I almost gave up, however I found a link to a very very nice
program that automates the whole process. All you do is
enter your current Serial Key and it not only generates a
new one but does all the registry editing for you.
It was as easy as that, I then restaredt windows and
proceeded to install SP1 which I had already downloaded

Hope this helps, I think it should work with all XP versions
    certainly worked with mine.

    Cheers

    James

Something else you can do is this:

    "click on start-->run, type regedit
go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion Look for a string value RegDone. If its not there add the value from Edit-->New-->String Value. Name it as "RegDone". Double click on the key in the right hand pane and type the value as "1". I guess it just tricks your computer into thinking the activation is done. Someone else posted it somewhere else, but I'm not sure who. *Sorry*
