Thread: What are the problems that you faced after installing SP1...

I had a few problems with SP1, the 1st one was that I downloaded and ran a virus while trying to find a serial crack.. then once I sorted that out and actually got around to installing the patch, the vid card/monitor wouldn't wake up after going to sleep. Had to restart!

Other than that, I didn't notice any improvements, so I've done a fresh install without SP1. Never been a big fan of MS patches.

This is starting to annoy me. Read what I'm writing very carefully please:

SP1 is not a generic "MS Patch" - it is simply a COLLECTION OF IMPORTANT UPDATES. If you run Windows Update and you've installed the critical updates regularly, that's pretty much what SP1 contains. Repeat after me: "SP1=Windows Update patches all gathered together in one large patch"

So yes, you can reinstall your Windows and not install SP1, but if then you go to Windows Update and install all the important patches since XP came out, it'll be exactly the same as install SP1 which is all of those patches COMBINED.

Most of these patches are genuinely CRITICAL. They cover security flaws/holes, fix problems with disk caching etc. which will improve the stability, and yes even the performance, of your machine as well as the security of it.

Your choice, but please don't make SP1 sound like a special patch, as it is just a collection of all the major Windows Update fixes in one place, much easier to install than connecting to Windows Update and having to download all the fixes each time you reinstall Windows...

The way the people are reporting their problems, IMHO when they are installing a 133MB patch they want their machines to act like super comps or something like that...
wake up people...nothing of that sort is going to happen.
I am totally with PI on this...please understand what SP1 is, before even thinking about installing it. If you update your XP regularly from windows update then you DON'T need SP1.
so there goes your appointments Wiggo...:p
