Thread: 'unread mail' message on XP logon screen

I have mulitple profiles (one for my father), so during startup I get the logon screen with a choice of which profile to log into. Recently mine says "2 unread mail messages" under my name. This would be normal if I actually HAD unread mail, but the message still appears even if I delete every message in Outlook!

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Cheers Joey

I'm afraid that I'm not much help here Spectrix but I thought I'd give this thread a "bump" since I have the same question. As myself and my son are the only regular users of this computer I've never bothered setting up the multiple accounts but recently while changing a driver or updating something or other I saw the "log in" screen briefly for the first time. According to it I had 7 messages! I have no idea what messages are being referred to or how to access them either.

Yeah.. well it's refering (I think) to unread mail messages in outlook express. Last time this happened I tried a few things to fix it.. in the end I made a new profile for myself and deleted the old one!

However, just yesterday I tried logging off and back on to Dads profile, then I switched users again and later when I restarted and got back to the logon screen the message was gone :thumb:

That would prolly solve the problem in that the "unread message" screen would no longer appear but the fact is that so far as I was able to tell I had no unread messages at the time! (i.e: there were no unread messages in outlook express). I haven't seen the log on screen since so I have no idea how many theoretical unread messages I now have or just where they may be.

If you want to check.. when you start in safe mode I think you get the start screen with options of Administrator and *insert your name here*. Not sure if it displays it's bizaar guestimation of unread email message numbers in safe mode but it might be worth at try - hold F8 during startup.

Thanks Spectrix! I may try that one of these days just for fun .... of course if it tells me I still have unread messages then I will just be more confused than usual and no farther ahead. Maybe it is Wiggo's relatives sending messages that mere mortals cannot read???

Thanks for the info Lunchbox. Hmmmm... it still tells me that the messages originate from msn or O.E. Oh well it's not worth trying to fix or figure out if I never see the screen again :p . If I can't see the messages then they don't matter much I guess (head in the sand theory).
