I've found the Microsoft Knowledgebase article which resolves this problem: Here.

Basically you need to clean out your Temporary Internet Folder then check your Downloaded Program Files directory - the full procedure is detailed in the link above.

sorry to interrupt the mutual appreciation society, but...
bmp picture files save at a lower and poorer resolution than jpeg files which in turn save at a lower resolution that tiff files.
this bmp trick is deliberate. basically it means that when you save it and want to print it hardcopy or print it on screen the resolution and quality is lower than an original.
since you can't hide in (cyber)space, and you can't copyright in cyberspace the best thing to do with your "intellectual property rights" ie copyright is to make whatever can be downloaded so crap in quality that no-one will commercially use it.:thumb:

I actually think it's the other way around. BMP files are much higher quality, but much, much larger in size than JPEG. JPEG is a compression routine which takes a Bitmap and makes it smaller without much visible quality loss (same as GIF, TIFF etc.). This is the same as audio, where WAV is best quality but huge, MP3 etc. are smaller but have slight (usually unoticeable) quality loss.

Anyway, the problem is that while some sites do force saving in different formats to protect their pictures, if it happens to you for ALL sites then use the fix above :)

The main thing here is say a 76KB .jpg/.jpeg is being change into a 7MB .bmp which would certainly discourage ppl on dialup from takin' a copy except as a screen shot. ;)

BTW Paint Shop Pro 7 does a great job of convertin' .bmp to .jpg :devil win
