I use the inbred one as well with favorable results, but it is a good idea to start the machine in Safe Mode before you defrag. Makes things run much smoother and faster too since all the added background crap isn't running. :)

I ran into problems with XP's built in defragmenter awhile ago when my kid installed one too many games and it no longer had sufficent space on the HD to defrag. Even after freeing up 3 gigs of space I still was getting the message that there was insufficent space to defrag when in fact there should have been lots! I wound up d-loading and installing a trial version of Raxco PerfectDisk and it did the defrag with out any problems but of course being trialware the prog was only good for a month and last time I checked the original defragger still had an attiude. I eventually settled on the free version of Diskeeper .... Diskeeper Lite. It does the job and only begs for me to buy the full version when the prog is first opened. (Full version has options to defrag on a set schedual rather than remembering to defrag on a regular basis).
