I am using windows XP, and when your administrator and place a password to stop unwanted users it asks if you want to make your files private. So yeah, I thought it'd be great. But just yesterday my username folder currupted so it gave me no choice but to format. After installing windows XP back on, I tried to access my files which were on a seperate partion, but all it said was Access Denied!!! I need help to get all my mp3 files back and other stuff :D Is there anyway to get past the encryption and restore everything back to normal hassle free?

Boot up into Recovery Console and try the LOGON command for the drive which is corrupted.

Do that by booting up from the WindowsXP CD, then as it says "Booting from CD" keep pressing F8. In the setup menu choose Recovery Console.

Chances are it won't work though, because NTFS is meant to be so secure that if you don't have the logon (or if the security files are corrupted), there is no way to "bypass" it.

actually i once did this but i must tell you that it is quite tedious.
go to tools --> folder options --> view
look for a checkbox saying "Use simple file sharing" and unckeck it. click on apply and ok.
now right click on the folder you want to change your security for or in other words to get your stuff from. go to properties and then security tab. you can edit the users who can have access to this folder from here.
remember that you will have to chop, change and fiddle with lots of things and i can't tell you the exact way i did it cos i m on FAT32 right now but it is possible on NTFS and i m telling you this from my own experience.

though i would recommend that you try PI's method first cos there is nothing better than windows allowing you to have what you want :thumb:
